Everyone tests….even the trainers who base their businesses in informed performance
Bryan Kavanagh is one of the first ‘outside’ trainers to base his business in our gym. Like everyone involved with ip…he tested.
His results were as follows:
Weight: 77.8Kg
Skinfolds: 47.3mm (8 site total)
Bench: 120kg
Pull Ups: 20
Push Ups: 73 in 60 secs
Inverted Rows: 35 in 60 secs
Trap Bar Deadlift: 220kg
His goals are as follows:
Skinfolds: < 40mm
Bench: 140kg
Pull Ups: 25
Push Ups: 80 in 60 secs
Inverted Rows: 40 in 60 secs
Trap Bar Deadlift: 220kg
They would be an awesome set of figures ,and I wouldn’t be betting against him picking up each of those goals while he is working out of ip.
We have a very different set up to most gyms. The reason for this is because we actually love what we do. For each of the directors what we do is not a job…it’s a vocation…it’s a lifestyle decision. I have days that I coach from 7am in the morning till 10pm at night…this isn’t because I am a workaholic…it’s not because I’m desperate for money…I do it because I love it. I enjoy working with athletes as much as I love working with regular clients and recreational trainers. I know that Barry is the same….whether it is working with pro fighters or kids…he gets the same buzz out of it. We all spend time in the gym outside our work hours…not because we have to but because we want to.
I started coaching 20 years ago and when I first started out training athletes I didn’t get paid….what paid my bills was personal training. I loved doing it then and I still love that part of the job now. For me it wasn’t a conscious decision to move out of personal training I just started getting paid more to coach. I was really lucky starting out because Jamie Costin gave me a start in his gym when I first got my NSCA Level I and my Fitness Leaders qualification. He gave me a job and he helped me build my personal training business. I learned a great deal from him and the other trainers I worked in the gym with. We want informed performance to be the same sort of place. A place where trainers can either build or carry on their business. If you are a qualified trainer or coach and you want to use our gym as a base and you’re ‘a fit’ with us then we want you in our gym. It is really simple to because like Bryan…all you do is to join the gym and have your clients join as well…that’s it…you don’t have to pay us a ‘share’ or anything like that…if you join and your client joins than the rest is your business…quite literally.
